Founded in 2014 under the direction of Maria Grün, the cello quartet "Die Kolophonistinnen" today consists of four young cellists with a passion for chamber music: Hannah Amann, Marlene Förstel, Elisabeth Herrmann and Theresa Laun. The name of the ensemble refers to the colophony, the amber-coloured tree resin, which creates the static friction between bow and string and makes the wonderful sound of the cellos possible. Maria Grün, cellist of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, teaches and looks after the young quartet with tireless commitment. The four achieve their first great success with a first prize at the National Competition of Prima la Musica 2015; a result which, to the great delight of the musicians, is again achieved in 2017.
This was followed by appearances at both national and international level. Through various competitions, the four cellists won appearances at the Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert 2016 in Schönbrunn Palace Park, in the worldwide New Year's Concert 2017 break film and at the Wiener Konzerthaus in November 2018.
"Die Kolophonistinnen" will perform outside Europe for the first time in January 2019. For two weeks they will tour Chile and present their refreshing programme in full-length concerts.
