Gustavo Dudamel and the Munich Philharmonic are on tour together, holding a concert in Barcelona's magical Palau de la Música concert hall. The Venezuelan will conduct Mahler's Symphony No. 2, the so-called Resurrection Symphony, and the Israeli soprano Chen Reiss and the American mezzo Tamara Mumford can be admired as soloists.

The Austrian composer and conductor Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) led the traditional genre of symphony into the 20th century. His works are part of the standard repertoire of every major orchestra. The finale of Mahler's Second Symphony is based on the poem "The Resurrection" by Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock and therefore bears the subtitle "Resurrection Symphony". The length as well as the extensive instrumentation (large orchestra, distance orchestra, organ, bells, large choir and 2 soloists) lead to the fact that the work is rarely performed. Nevertheless, the Second Symphony is a central work in Mahler's oeuvre.
