In 2017, the new artistic director Tomas Zierhofer-Kin is responsible for the programmatic direction of the Wiener Festwochen for the first time. The festive opening, which has already become a tradition, will take place at Vienna's Rathausplatz. The programme will provide one or two musical surprises.
The host and conférencieuse of the musically unusual show evening is Conchita Wurst, who for the opening of the Wiener Festwochen will further develop the concept of earlier concerts with orchestral accompaniment together with artists such as Lylit, Ernst Molden, Willi Resetarits, Walther Soyka, Hannes Wirth, MoZuluArt, Russkaja and Yasmo & the Klangkantine. At the Rathausplatz, Conchita, together with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, meets in multi-faceted duets and unusual arrangements the incomparable cultural diversity that has made this city - not only - musically unique for so many centuries.
