Recording from the Semperoper Dresden on the occasion of the 150th birthday of Richard Strauss (1864-1949). On the program are scenes from the Dresden opera by Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier, Elektra, Feuersnot, Salome, Arabella, Intermezzo, Die ägyptische Helena, Die schweigsame Frau, Daphne. The connection between Strauss and Dresden is particularly close: Nine of his fifteen operas were premiered here, and the Staatskapelle is also known as the "Strauss Orchestra".
