The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Georg Solti plays the overture to the operetta "Dichter und Bauer" (Poet and Peasant) by Franz von Suppé (1819-1895). Recorded at the New Year's Eve Concert 1980 in the Hercules Hall of the Munich Palace. Sir Georg Solti (1912-1997) was one of the greatest conductors of the 20th Century. "The last of the great international orchestral and operatic maestri" (The Times) represented as a conductor of the old school the elegance and tastefulness of Central European music-making.
