From the Bayreuth Festival: "Siegfried" by Richard Wagner (1813-1883). Conductor: Pierre Boulez - Stage director: Patrice Chéreau. With Manfred Jung (Siegfried), Heinz Zednik (Mime), Donald McIntyre (Der Wanderer), Hermann Becht (Alberich), Gwyneth Jones (Brünnhilde), Fritz Hübner (Fafner), Ortrun Wenkel (Erda), Norma Sharp (Waldvogel). It began with a scandal, became the object of heated discussions, turned into a sensational success and finally blossomed into a legendary, standard setting production: The "Centennial Ring" in Bayreuth. Finally, in 1980, its last year, the production concluded with a 90-minute ovation and 110 curtain calls.
