After several weeks of closure due to Corona, two of Austria's most important cultural institutions are now resuming performances: The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Wiener Musikverein present concerts together again. Out of a series of extraordinary events, each of which is permitted for a maximum of 100 visitors due to official regulations, the very first philharmonic concert post Corona with Daniel Barenboim as conductor and pianist will be shown in a "matinee" on Sunday. On the programme are Mozart's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in B flat major, K 595, and Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C minor, op. 67.

Only a few months ago, the Vienna Philharmonic was still looking forward to working with conductor Daniel Barenboim in May - together they were to perform Gustav Mahler's 7th Symphony in the Great Hall of the Wiener Musikverein. The Corona Pandemic, however, put a stop to this plan and for a long time there was no thought of resuming their concert programmes until the end of the Musikverein season. As soon as the loosening up of the cultural sector was announced for the beginning of June, the Wiener Musikverein reacted and continued to rely on several short concert cycles with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and brilliant conductor names until the end of June.

The Philharmonic Orchestra will now kick off on 5, 6 and 7 June with Daniel Barenboim, who will appear as soloist and conductor, thus once again underlining his special relationship with the Viennese orchestra. fidelio will be present at this memorable event and, with its time-delayed broadcast, will enable a large number of the actually interested audience to participate. According to the regulations, a maximum of 100 visitors, who will be seated like chessboards, will be allowed to enjoy the music for a maximum of 70 minutes - without a break - in the Golden Hall.

On the program is first of all Wolfgang A. Mozart's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in B flat major, KV 595, which will be conducted by pianist Daniel Barenboim from the piano. Afterwards, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under his baton will play Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C minor, thus commemorating the great Beethoven anniversary of the 250th birthday of the musical genius, whose celebrations had been cancelled many times due to Corona.
