Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713): Concerti grossi Op. 6 Nos. 11 & 12; I Solisti Veneti conducted by Claudio Scimone. La Follia Op. 5/12; Bettina Mussumeli (violin), Ernesto Merlini (harpsichord). Recorded in October 1986 in the Basilica Di San Marco, Rome. The Italian composer and violinist Corelli was one of the creators of the concerto grosso, in which individual groups of instruments in the orchestra emerge as soloists. His collection of twelve Concerti Op. 6 is one of the finest examples of this genre. As a composer Corelli had a great influence on European music of the 18th Century, as a violinist he set new standards in the development of violin playing.
