Under the baton of its chief conductor Mariss Jansons, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is welcoming three famous guest soloists: Janine Jansen (violin), Thomas Hampson (baritone), Lang Lang (piano). The festive program features Mahler and Strauss, both of whom conducted the orchestra on several occasions, as well as works by Richard Wagner, Gustav Mahler, Sergei Prokofiev, Peter Tchaikovsky, Camille Saint-Saëns, Richard Strauss and Bob Zimmermann. In April 1888, the Concertgebouw (Dutch for concert hall) in Amsterdam was opened. With its excellent acoustics, the splendid building is one of the best concert halls in the world. In autumn of 1888, the Concertgebouw Orchestra was founded; it ranks among the best orchestras in the international music scene. In 1988, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands conferred the "Royal" title upon the orchestra.
