Peter Schmidl (clarinet), Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Leonard Bernstein. Recorded in September 1987 at the Konzerthaus Wien. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) wrote his concerto for the clarinetist Anton Stadler, who was a Freemason like Mozart. For Stadler Mozart also composed chamber music and important parts for this instrument in other works. Composed two months before Mozart's death, the Concerto K. 622 is Mozart's most important wind concerto and "the" Clarinet Concerto throughout the repertoire.
