From the Salzburg Festival: "Die Zauberflöte" (The Magic Flute) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). Conductor: Nikolaus Harnoncourt - Stage director: Jens-Daniel Herzog. Recorded in the Felsenreitschule. With Georg Zeppenfeld (Sarastro), Mandy Fredrich (Königin der Nacht), Bernard Richter (Tamino), Julia Kleiter (Pamina), Markus Werba (Papageno), Elisabeth Schwarz (Papagena). Mozart's most famous opera and one of the most popular and most performed works in the world opened the series of new opera productions of the 2012 Salzburg Festival. Nikolaus Harnoncourt, a pioneer in the field of authentic performance, leads the production on historic instruments, played by "his" Concentus Musicus Wien. "In The Magic Flute two worlds clash, two worlds that are also codependent: the world of light and rationality - the world of night, of feelings, of imagination, of dreams. The opera relates the story of two couples caught up on the frontline of these principles, who have to prove themselves and find their very own way," director Herzog explains.
