Gioacchino Rossini, also called “The Swan of Pesaro“, named after his place of birth where he was born on the 29th of February in 1792. In Pesaro he spent his teens, started his great career as a composer of operas and this is also the place where he had his first culinary experiences. The province Marken and the town Pesaro were forming his life as a composer, Bonvivant and Gourmet-Gourmand forever. Today, one can meet Rossini in Pesaro everywhere, not only in the Rossini restaurant with the legendary “Tournedos Rossini”. Rossini here, Rossini there. Hurrying from the Teatro Rossini to the Conservatorio Rossini you will stand in front of the Rossini memorial, find the Via Rossini with the birthplace and might wonder about a Rossini statue at the main post office. You will also see his picture in the record stores where there is a poster of the Rossini Festival in August as well and finally you will have a Rossini Cocktail (Strawberries with Prosecco) before escaping into the Rossini restaurant with macaroni, ravioli and truffles. However, Pesaro has even more to admire. The annual Rossini Festival in August offers the opportunity to get to know several unknown Rossini operas – after all, the maestro formerly composed 40 of them.
