On Jan. 1, 2021, the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert will take place for the sixth time under the musical direction of Italian conductor Riccardo Muti, who has been closely associated with the orchestra for decades. Together with the orchestra's board, he has put together a cheerful yet contemplative program from the rich repertoire of the Strauss dynasty and its contemporaries. The ballet interludes of the Vienna State Ballet, choreographed by José Carlos Martinez, were recorded in August in the magnificent rooms and gardens of the Gartenpalais Liechtenstein, as well as in the Looshaus - one of the central buildings of Viennese modernism in Vienna. The intermission film by Felix Breisach is dedicated to the youngest of all Austrian provinces, Burgenland, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2021.
