Giovanni Bottesini, who died in 1821, was considered the “Paganini of the double bass”, and his compositions demand a corresponding level of virtuosity. To mark the centenary of his death, Daniel Ottensamer and Christoph Traxler have dedicated this special musical evening to his memory. They have invited along soprano Romana Amerling and double bassist Ödön Rácz, who, like Ottensamer, is a member of the Vienna Philharmonic. Luigi Bassi’s “Fantasy on Themes from Rigoletto” is a stalwart of clarinet literature and a highly demanding piece – just right for Daniel Ottensamer! Bassi was principal clarinettist at La Scala in Milan.
