From the Bayreuth Festival: "Die Walküre" (The Valkyrie) by Richard Wagner (1813-1883). Conductor: Pierre Boulez - Stage director: Patrice Chéreau. With Donald McIntyre (Wotan), Hanna Schwarz (Fricka), Peter Hofmann (Siegmund), Matti Salminen (Hunding), Jeannine Altmeyer (Sieglinde), Gwyneth Jones (Brünnhilde). It began with a scandal, became the object of heated discussions, turned into a sensational success and finally blossomed into a legendary, standard setting production: The "Centennial Ring" in Bayreuth. Finally, in 1980, its last year, the production concluded with a 90-minute ovation and 110 curtain calls.
