Barbara Rett accompanies the artistic director of the Salzburg Easter Festival during his everyday life at the rehearsals, behind the scenes and in the orchestra pit and talks to the stars of the production.
The German conductor star Christian Thielemann is the first music director in Bayreuth and chief conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden. Since 2012 he has also been artistic director of the Salzburg Easter Festival. At the beginning of this year he celebrated his long-awaited and highly acclaimed debut at the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic. Barbara Rett meets him at the Salzburg Easter Festival.
This year, Richard Wagner's monumental "Meistersinger" are on the programme at the Easter Festival - Thielemann has long, intensive rehearsal days. Barbara Rett accompanies him and speaks with the singers of the production - after all, with Georg Zeppenfeld, Klaus Florian Vogt, Jacquelin Wagner, Adrian Eröd and others - a world-class cast stands on the stage of the Festspielhaus.
How does sound arise, how transparent must Wagner sound, how does Thielemann prepare himself, why are breaks important to him, how does one deal with the enormous complexity of this opera - all this Christian Thielemann tells in conversation with Barbara Rett. A short coffee break in Castle Leopoldskron makes you feel that Salzburg is a special place for Thielemann.
