The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Georg Solti plays the Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92 by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Recorded in spring 1995 at Vienna's Musikvereinssaal. With this concert Solti paid homage to his native Hungary, to his roots and his teachers. The second part of the concert was devoted to Beethoven, who was not Hungarian but was adopted by Hungary's Austrian neighbors. Sir Georg Solti (1912-1997) was one of the greatest conductors of the 20th Century. "The last of the great international orchestral and operatic maestri" (The Times) represented as a conductor of the old school the elegance and tastefulness of Central European music-making.
