David Rendall (tenor), Pierre Moreau (organ), Choirs of the Orchestre de Paris and the Maîtrise de la Résurrection, Orchestre de Paris; conductor: Daniel Barenboim. Recorded at Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris. From 1975 to 1989 Daniel Barenboim was Music Director of the Orchestre de Paris. Hector Berlioz (1803-1869) had originally planned a giant project enlisting the services of almost a thousand performers; subsequently he revised the score for a more modest choral group comprising 130 voices. The work does not inspire meditation as much as celebration, and Berlioz deploys many dramatic effects.
