From the Teatro alla Scala in Milan: "Fedora" by Umberto Giordano (1867-1948). Conductor: Gianandrea Gavazzeni - Stage director: Lamberto Puggelli. With Mirella Freni (Princess Fedora Romazov), Plácido Domingo (Count Loris Ipanov). Count Loris shoots Fedora's bridegroom on the eve of her wedding in St. Petersburg. In Paris, Fedora and Loris meet again. Loris explains that the murdered man had been his wife's lover and that he had acted out of self-defense. Loris learns that Fedora has denounced him at home, and swears for revenge; Fedora sees only the way out to poison herself.
