With Beethoven and Brahms, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra turns to its forte: to perform the best works from the Classical and Romantic periods. It joins forces with star pianist Yefim Bronfman, the Russian-Israeli-American master who is known to excel in tumultuous works. Remarkably enough, Bronfman now attends to the most tender of piano concertos that Beethoven composed. The shining performance of the “impressive virtuoso” is matched by the RCO, who “warmed your soul with a velvety whirring string sound, warm-sounding wind instruments.” (NRC)
