When, at the beginning of summer, chamber music lovers from all over the world pilgrimage to Lockenhaus in order to be part of how friends make music with friends for friends, then it is Lockenhaus chamber music festival time. Almost 40 years ago, Gidon Kremer gathered an illustrious group of internationally celebrated musician friends in Lockenhaus in central Burgenland in order to play casually at the highest level away from the music business.
From the simple beginnings a festival arose, which is probably not comparable to anything else: The festival was named a European Cultural Heritage Site by the New York Times and Eleonore Büning writes in the FAZ: "Nobody who wasn't there doesn't believe that anyway.
In this magical little town in Central Burgenland - in the centre of Europe, far away from the world - artistic director Nicolas Altstaedt once again presents an illustrious group of internationally sought-after musician friends in 2019 under this year's motto "Authentikos".
