From the Salzburg Festival: Stabat Mater for 4 Soloists, Chorus and Orchestra by Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868); the concert begins with the Symphony in D major Hob. I:104 by Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). Anna Netrebko (soprano), Marianna Pizzolato (mezzo-soprano), Matthew Polenzani (tenor), Ildebrando D'Arcangelo (bass); Chorus and Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia; conductor: Antonio Pappano. Netrebko blends "her voice beautifully into the solo ensemble - one voice among equals in an excellent quartet" (Salzburger Nachrichten). Antonio Pappano, the Accademia's principal conductor, does full justice to Rossini's work, a dramatic piece full of sensual choral passages and varied solos and ensemble pieces.
