The "Zigeunerbaron" (Gypsy Baron) is still one of the most performed Strauss operettas after the "Fledermaus". Songs such as "Ja, das Schreiben und das Lesen" and "Borstenvieh und Schweinespeck" have long taken on a life of their own from the overall composition - with lively bars like these, Strauß was able to ridicule an outdated social hierarchy that made it more difficult for "upstarts" from the lower social strata to pass the censorship by. The musical direction is in the hands of Rudolf Bibl. Stage design and costumes by Rolf Langenfass and Georg Gesler is responsible for the choreography. Among others Kammersänger Heinz Zednik, Peter Edelmann and Martina Serafin are the singers.
