With Svetla Vassileva (Giovanna), Renato Bruson (Giacomo), Luigi Petroni (Delil), Evan Bowers (Carlo VII), Maurizio Lo Piccolo (Talbot). With his seventh opera, Giuseppe Verdi achieved 1845 a great success at the premiere at La Scala of Milan. He enthusiastically wrote that it was "without doubt the best" of his hitherto existing operas. This first of Verdi's four Schiller settings is based on the tragedy "The Maid of Orleans", followed by "I Masnadieri" (The Robbers), "Luisa Miller" (after Intrigue and Love) and "Don Carlos."
