For the fifth time, Italian maestro Riccardo Muti will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert, and in his program - in addition to time-honored waltzes and polkas from the Strauss dynasty - he will also present a few new works: including the "Myrthenblüten-Walzer" by Johann Strauss and the "Stefanie-Gavotte" by Alphonse Czibulka. In addition to two ballet interludes danced by the Vienna State Ballet, a number of interludes also commemorate important anniversaries to be celebrated in 2018: the Augarten Porcelain Manufactory turns 300 and the Austrian National Library even celebrates the 650th year of its existence. For the first time, Henning Kasten is taking over the picture direction for the concert and for the ballet interludes pre-recorded in September.
