From the Bayreuth Festival: "Lohengrin" by Richard Wagner (1813-1883). Conductor: Peter Schneider - Stage director: Werner Herzog. With Paul Frey (Lohengrin), Cheryl Studer (Elsa), Manfred Schenk (König Heinrich), Gabriele Schnaut (Ortrud), Ekkehard Wlaschiha (Telramund), Eike Wilm Schulte (Heerrufer). With films such as "Aguirre, the Wrath of God" and "Fitzcarraldo" the German director Werner Herzog (b. 1942) moved into the first range of international filmmakers. With his ravishing beautiful production of "Lohengrin" in 1987 he gave a convincing debut at the Bayreuth Festival. "Wondrously aesthetic production ... you could not escape the magic of beautiful pictures" (FonoForum).
