Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a trade mark, a name with worldwide recognition. Yet: the man behind the name and the music remains a mystery. ”Wolfgang Who?” tells the story of this most remarkable musician in two parts. Part 1 shows his years travelling Europe as a wunderkind under the vigilant eyes of Leopold, his father, teacher, and nemesis. Part 2 tells the story of his rebellion, initial triumph and final defeat in Vienna in the 1780s. Both films feature numerous world famous interpreters of Mozart’s music, who speak about his impact and importance: singers Anna Netrebko and Thomas Hampson, pianists Murray Perahia and András Schiff, conductors Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Sylvain Cambreling, violinists Anne-Sophie Mutter and Maxim Vengerov, and many more, including gypsy musician Titi Winterstein and pop icon Prince. The films reveal the latest findings on Mozart’s life as researched by the most eminent biographers in the field. The films follow Mozart’s footsteps on locations in Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Milan, Venice, Rome, Naples, Paris, London, Mannheim, Berlin and Prague, showing some of the most beautiful places on earth, castles, palaces and theatres like the marvel of a baroque theatre that still exists in Schwetzingen, Germany – places where Mozart lived, and performed. Part 2: tells the story of his rebellion, initial triumph and final defeat in Vienna in the 1780s.
